A mountain in a dream is one of the clearest images of a goal that requires real effort: it stands apart from the flat, ordinary landscape around it, and the dream usually cares less about the mountain itself than about the dreamer's relationship to it — approaching, climbing, or simply looking up.
Struggling up a steep or endless slope. A climb that never seems to end, or a path that keeps getting steeper, tends to reflect a goal the dreamer has committed to but is starting to doubt they have the stamina for — the mountain's difficulty mirroring the effort already spent in waking life.

In Chinese folk tradition, mountains are tied to stability and the support of powerful allies — dreaming of a mountain at one's back is a traditional sign of protection, while a crumbling or collapsing mountain warns of losing that support.
