What it means to dream about a storm: watching it approach versus being caught in it, and different traditions' views.
A storm in a dream is rarely subtle: it usually marks a conflict or upheaval the dreamer already senses is coming, or is already in the middle of, even if its waking-life form hasn't fully declared itself yet. What matters most is the dreamer's position relative to the storm — approaching, inside it, or watching it pass.
Watching a storm approach from a distance. Seeing dark clouds gather while still safe often reflects a mounting sense that conflict or difficulty is on its way, even before any concrete sign of it has appeared in waking life.
Caught in the middle of a violent storm. Being battered by wind and rain directly usually points to a crisis the dreamer feels is already fully underway — less a warning than a description of how overwhelmed they currently feel.

Classical interpretation generally reads a violent storm as a warning of conflict, hardship, or a disruptive event heading the dreamer's way, with the storm's intensity in the dream often taken as a rough measure of the trouble's severity.
Jung treated the storm as an image of psychic upheaval — powerful unconscious material breaking through the ordinary calm of waking awareness, disruptive but often ultimately clearing the air rather than merely destructive.
In Chinese folk tradition, a storm is generally an inauspicious sign linked to conflict or sudden misfortune, though a storm that passes quickly and gives way to clear skies is read as trouble that will resolve faster than feared.
