Rain in a dream is closely tied to emotional release — tears the dreamer may not be shedding while awake, or a tension that has finally found an outlet. Unlike a storm, rain on its own rarely signals danger; its meaning turns mainly on gentleness versus intensity.
Gentle, steady rain. A soft, even rain is usually read as a sign of emotional cleansing or relief — sadness or stress finally being allowed to pass through rather than being held in.
Heavy, relentless, or cold rain. Rain that soaks, chills, or won't let up tends to point instead to prolonged emotional strain the dreamer has been enduring longer than they'd like to admit, without much sense of when it will ease.

Rain is one of the clearest favourable readings in the classical Islamic corpus: it is mercy (raḥma) and provision, arriving from above and on everyone rather than being earned by any one person. General, gentle rain over a place is read as relief, sustenance and the lifting of hardship. The reading inverts exactly when the rain does: rain of blood, of stones or of fire is read as punishment, and rain that destroys crops or houses is read against the same sense. Rain falling on one house and not the others is read as something specific to that household rather than as general mercy — the tradition notices the distribution, not just the weather.

The dream books themselves are briefer, and favourable: readings of the shape that rain falling portends a happy matter, and that heavy rain portends gain. And for the aftermath there is 「雨过天晴」 (yǔ guò tiān qíng, the rain passes and the sky clears) — the standard phrase for a bad situation turning, and the natural reading for a dream in which the rain ends while the dreamer watches.
