What it means to dream about a volcano: dormant tension versus a sudden eruption, and different traditions' perspectives.
A volcano in a dream is one of the most vivid images of suppressed emotion — pressure that has built quietly for a long time beneath a calm exterior, with the dream itself often marking the point where that pressure can no longer be fully contained.
A dormant or smoking volcano. A volcano that is quiet but visibly active, perhaps with a wisp of smoke, usually reflects tension the dreamer is aware of and currently managing to keep contained, even if it takes real effort.
A volcano erupting violently. An actual eruption tends to point to anger or emotion that has finally broken past the dreamer's ability to suppress it — a release that may feel destructive in the moment but is also, often, overdue.

Classical interpretation generally reads an erupting volcano as a warning sign of anger, conflict, or upheaval reaching a breaking point, with the extent of the damage in the dream read as a rough measure of the trouble's scale.
Jung read the volcano as an especially clear image of repressed material erupting from the unconscious — emotion or instinct too long denied finding its way to the surface with considerable force.
In Chinese folk tradition, a volcano is generally an inauspicious sign of conflict or a sudden loss of control, and traditionally advises the dreamer to address a simmering tension before it forces its own resolution.
