Dreaming about blindness — meaning and interpretation
What it means to dream about losing your sight: an unwillingness or inability to see the truth, and traditions' views.
Blindness in a dream is one of the more direct bodily metaphors: an inability, whether forced or chosen, to see something clearly — and it usually points to a truth in waking life the dreamer either can't yet access or hasn't been ready to face.
Gradually losing sight. A slow fading of vision often reflects a truth that has been coming into focus for a while, even as the dreamer has resisted fully acknowledging it.
Sudden, total blindness. An abrupt loss of sight tends to point instead to a specific fact or realization the dreamer feels unprepared to confront, arriving faster than they feel ready to process.
Perspectives across traditions
Classical interpretation often reads blindness as connected to a departure from the right path or an inability to perceive an important truth, generally taken as a caution to seek clearer guidance and reflect more honestly.
In a Jungian reading, blindness represents a refusal, conscious or not, to look directly at something — an inner resistance to insight, distinct from a simple lack of information.
In Chinese folk tradition, losing one's sight in a dream is generally read as a warning against being misled or acting without full information, and counsels greater caution before making an important decision.
